Favor for a Favor is the second episode of the Netflix streaming series The Brothers Sun. It aired on January 4, 2024.
Synopsis[]
Charles introduces Bruce to his unique line of work, while trying to get rid of a body, but he continues to be a moving target to everywhere he goes.
Plot[]
Mama Sun deals with the aftermath of Charles’ first visit by dismembering the body of the henchmen for disposal. Meanwhile, Bruce is reminded about his university exam, which counts for 8 % of his total grade. However, rather than taking Bruce to college, Charles asks Bruce to deliver a large suitcase, containing the body parts to a bald man, who handles such matters.
The bald man states that the condition for the body to be disposed of is to drop off a water monitor to someone in Arcadia. Charles has no intention of becoming a delivery guy, but flips the script when he learns that the man they’re supposed to meet might know the identity of the attacker, who assaulted him in his mother’s home. Little does Charles know, the bald man is a backstabber, and leaks Charles’ location to a mystery caller.
Meanwhile, Mama Sun sticks to her regular routine, which consists of mahjong with her friends, a hair makeover, and a bit of shopping. All of which seem like regular errands on the surface, but are actually her way to find the the identity of the killer.
The road trip to Arcadia becomes a bonding moment for the Sun brothers, giving Bruce a chance to finally get answers to the questions that have been nagging at him. Bruce wants to know why his father sent him and his mother away from Taiwan, how rich they really are, and who wants to kill their family. Charles reveals that the father is a feared member of the Jade Dragon Society, a triad with roots that date back to the Qing Dynasty.
The triad is systematized into different factions, each ruled by gangsters who deal with all sorts of illegal activities and crimes. Charles continues on by stating that right now, him and his family are in the crosshairs of a triad player, who goes by the moniker "Sunny Chan".
Later, Charles arrives at the mansion in Arcadia, and surprisingly, the owner remembers Charles from a past meeting, where Charles killed a man with a pool cue. When Charles shows the killer’s head, the owner clams up, and demands assurance that the Jade Dragon will protect him. Charles agrees, but before any valuable information is shared, the man is stabbed by a gang of goons decked out as dinosaurs.
Thanks to Charles’ martial arts skills, the brothers once again manage to escape unharmed. However, the dinosaur-clad attackers are the least of their worries, as the cops and Alexis, Deputy DA, are also hot on their trail, investigating May’s death and the explosion at the night club.
Alexis tracks Bruce down to his college, and finds Charles munching on churros, casually holding a bag containing the killer’s head. It also turns out that Charles and Alexis both share a history as old friends, who grew up together in Taipei. Their paths split when Alexis went to the States for education. However, before Alexis can question Charles further, he once again slips away.
Later, Alexis pays another visit to Charles, revealing that she knows about his father’s condition, and warns him against stirring up trouble in Los Angeles. Alexis also takes Charles’s number, so they can keep in touch.
